Enhancing Realism With New Laminate Installation
To truly deliver natural wood and stone realism from your laminate floors, here are a few of the key considerations that our team follows to deliver as much authenticity as possible:
EIR technology means that the textured surface of the laminate precisely matches the printed wood grain or stone pattern. When you run your hand across an EIR plank, you'll feel the knots, grain lines, and imperfections exactly where they appear visually, just like real wood or stone. This tactile realism significantly elevates the authenticity of your finished laminate floor!
Since real hardwood floors rarely come in perfectly uniform lengths and widths, laminate products that offer a mix of plank lengths within the box or varying widths mimic natural hardwood more accurately. For a stone look, avoid perfectly straight, grid-like patterns in favor of a random or offset tile layout with varied grout lines. Consider products with shade and pattern variations between pieces.
Laminate planks with beveled edges or V-grooves create a subtle indentation between each piece. This mimics the distinct separation seen in real hardwood planks or individual stone tiles, adding depth and dimension to the floor. Without beveled edges, the floor can look like a single sheet and affect realism.
Even with high-quality laminate, there can be slight variations in color and pattern between production runs or even within the same box. To ensure a cohesive and natural appearance, we open several boxes at a time and mix planks from different boxes. This helps distribute any subtle variations evenly across the floor, preventing noticeable "patches" of similar-looking planks.
For wood-look laminate, the direction in which you lay the planks can significantly impact realism and the perception of space. Generally, laying the planks parallel to the longest wall in the room or parallel to the main light source will enhance depth and make the room appear larger. This also helps minimize the appearance of seams by aligning them with incoming light, making them less noticeable.
